1/7/2024 0 Comments Overflow box for sump![]() Problems I'm having are that the bracket is so bad and the screw holding the skimmer body won't tighten enough so when I push the collection cup back on it is too easy to move the whole skimmer down. I used the bracket (which is pretty bad) to hold it up about 1" or so off the bottom of the sump. I put it in about 8 inches of water in my sump but that makes it overflow the cup with water in just a couple of minutes. I have had mine running for about 3 weeks now. It looks to me like you are running the same reef octopus skimmer that I just got and I was wondering your thoughts on it. If it fails for any reason your going to have a flood. You NEED to check that suction pump at least once a month cause its your Achilles heel. That is one thing that is vitally important with HOB overflows. Its been there just working ever since, although I do have to clean it out once every few months. I drilled out the hole where it was and hot glued an airline connection in its place. I actually broke off the suction pump connection at one point so I had to improvise. So I won't be able to vouch for any brands. I have no idea what the name/brand of my actual overflow is as I got it from the person I bought the setup from originally. The overflow goes down into PVC then some flex tube into a filter sock Here's a pic of the setup For the return I have flex tubing connected to PVC which runs through my canopy next to the LED fixture. I initially had flexible tubing for the return but I wanted it to look better since I have a peninsula setup where the return is on the far side of the tank. I have had a HOB overflow for about 3 years now without catastrophe. /u/dailyapplecrisp's Fish Harmony (compatibility).Posts created only for self promotion or to promote a business you are affiliated with must be clearly marked in the post title or they wil be removed.
